Information collected

If you subscribe, the site stores your email address, optional first name, subscription status, signup source and the date you gave consent.

The site also uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to collect general usage information such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, referral source, clicks, scrolling and reading engagement. Clarity may create anonymized session recordings and heatmaps. Sensitive text fields are not intentionally recorded.

How it is used

Your information is used to send UNSUPERVISED* and related publication notices, understand which stories readers find useful and improve the site. It is not sold. Kit processes subscriber information to operate the publication.

Google and Microsoft process analytics data under their own privacy policies. The site does not use these tools to make decisions about individual readers.

Policy Playground

Quiz answers are calculated in your browser tab, without being saved to an account or sent with a newsletter signup. The quiz page excludes Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity scripts. Refreshing clears answers. A shared result link includes organization match names, but not individual answers or identity; anyone with that link can view the names. Opening a result in your email app does not automatically send it.

Optional newsletter signup sends your email and consent to the site and Kit, our newsletter provider. Quiz responses and results are not included.

Your choices

You may unsubscribe from any email or request deletion of your subscriber record by contacting claytonhollingsworth@gmail.com. You may also limit analytics through your browser’s cookie and tracking controls or by using available Google Analytics opt-out tools.

Family-history inquiries

If you submit a family-history inquiry, your contact information, project goals, relatives, source links, privacy preferences consent and attachment metadata are stored privately in the site database. Uploaded files are stored in private object storage and attached to the notification sent to Clayton through Resend. An immediate acknowledgment email is sent to the address you provide; it contains no uploaded files or detailed family information. These details are used to evaluate the project and reply to you. Submission does not authorize publication. Email and phone are required for project contact. The form also requires explicit consent to the UNSUPERVISED* newsletter and other email marketing; the consent wording, version and time are recorded. A separate Kit confirmation step activates the email subscription. You may unsubscribe at any time. Providing a phone number does not authorize marketing texts or calls. Please share only information you have permission to provide, and avoid sensitive details about living people.

Clayton reviews inquiries before agreeing on scope, timing or fees. You may request correction or deletion by emailing me@claytonhollingsworth.com. The intake page excludes new analytics and session-recording initialization; form fields are masked for session-recording tools.

Family privacy

The publication distinguishes between a family story and a family member’s private life. Personal logistics, live locations and private communications are not publication material merely because they are known to the author.
