Cut-paper Trump as a carnival host beside an oversized $5,000 prize check supported by an asterisk, with an empty chair nearby.

The source record

The receipt

Speaking in Dallas on September 9, Trump promised a $5,000 dividend for every adult citizen if Republicans retain both the House and Senate. This is a conditional proposal, not an enacted payment.

Satirical commentary

For the record.

Most rewards programs make you buy nine sandwiches. This one requires control of two chambers of Congress.

Five thousand dollars is an attention-getting number. So is the number of questions between a speech and a check. Who funds it? Who authorizes it? When does it arrive? Apparently those are details for the extremely boring department that turns applause into actual government.

Somewhere, a budget analyst has put down a sandwich and begun staring through a wall.
