Central Texas Food Bank
The work between the warehouse and the family table
Central Texas Food Bank connects regional scale with the everyday places where people find food.
The Short Version
An Austin-based food bank connecting a 21-county region with groceries, benefits assistance and pathways to work.
A regional network
Central Texas Food Bank serves a region much larger than the city in its mailing address. Its public materials describe a 21-county service area and more than 450 places to access food. That network makes the organization relevant to donors concerned about smaller communities as well as Austin: the warehouse is one part of a system whose value depends on food reaching people close to home.
Food, and what follows
The organization's work extends from food distribution into benefits assistance, health and wellness programs, children's services and workforce training. Culinary and warehouse training connect its operational expertise with practical employment skills. Together, these programs offer a useful way to understand the mission: meeting today's food needs while addressing some of the circumstances that make tomorrow uncertain.
Backing a regional system
A gift to the food bank supports work that depends on both regional capacity and local relationships. Its breadth allows supporters to connect an interest in children's nutrition, older adults, health or employment with a shared institution. President and CEO Sari Vatske and Chief Development Officer Mark Jackson lead that effort. Individual giving, corporate partnerships and volunteer service provide several ways to participate in the region's response to hunger.
