Hill Country Conservancy

The Hill Country is more than a view

Hill Country Conservancy connects the landscape people love with the water, habitat and stewardship that sustain it.

The Short Version

Conservation partnerships protecting Hill Country land, water and wildlife, with preserves and public opportunities to experience nature.

The landscape beneath the postcard

Hill Country Conservancy protects natural resources through land conservation and community participation. Its portfolio includes conservation easements on ranches and protected spaces that support water and wildlife. The public project list reaches into counties such as Blanco, Burnet, Llano and San Saba, making clear that its work extends beyond Austin's urban trail system.

Water gives the map meaning

The organization's Pecan Springs Karst Preserve sits in the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. Its description of that property connects habitat protection with the region's water supply. That relationship offers a useful lens for philanthropy: protecting land can preserve ecological functions that matter to communities well beyond a property's boundaries. Public hikes, volunteer opportunities and the Violet Crown Trail give residents other ways to engage with the mission.

A place for public participation

Conservation here includes both protected ranchland and places people can experience through guided activities and volunteering. That range connects long-term landowner commitments with everyday public appreciation of the Hill Country. Chief Executive Officer Kathy Miller and Director of Development Caitlyn Schroeder-Willuhn lead the organization. Financial support, membership and hands-on participation give residents and visitors several ways to contribute to the continuing care of the water, wildlife and open spaces that define the region.
