Meals on Wheels Central Texas
A meal, a visit, a way to stay home
Meals on Wheels Central Texas links nourishment with the practical conditions of independent living.
The Short Version
Home-delivered meals and related services helping older adults and people with disabilities remain independent across six Central Texas counties.
A regional doorstep
Meals on Wheels Central Texas grew from an East Austin volunteer effort in 1972 into an organization serving older adults and people with disabilities across six counties. Its model brings food to the recipient, making the delivery route part of the service itself. For people who cannot easily shop or prepare meals, that changes where access begins.
Independence has several ingredients
The organization's services extend beyond meals to include safety checks, social connection and additional support. Its public service menu includes home repair, grocery assistance and pet support, alongside in-home care options. These programs address different parts of remaining at home: nutrition matters, and so do the condition of the house, day-to-day help and relationships that reduce isolation.
The people behind each delivery
Volunteers are central to this regional service, connecting the organization's kitchen and support programs with people at home. Led by President and CEO Henry Van de Putte, Meals on Wheels Central Texas offers both one-time and monthly giving. Recurring support fits work that must continue through an ordinary week as well as a season of heightened attention. The purpose stays close to the doorstep: helping neighbors remain nourished, connected and independent.
