High Plains Food Bank
The distance between a warehouse and dinner
Across the Panhandle, hunger relief depends on a regional network that can reach the last mile.
The Short Version
An Amarillo-based food bank connecting Panhandle communities with groceries, nutrition programs and local feeding partners.
A regional system with local doors
High Plains Food Bank serves 29 counties across roughly 30,000 square miles of the Texas Panhandle. Founded in 1982, it collects, stores and distributes food through a network of more than 140 feeding partners. Churches, senior centers, shelters and other community organizations help turn that regional supply into food that neighbors can actually access.
That geography is central to its story. A food bank serving a large rural territory needs both the capacity to handle substantial inventories and trusted local places where people can seek help. High Plains Food Bank brings those two scales together.
More than food distribution
Its program menu includes Kids Cafe, senior food assistance, Mobile Harvest, benefits assistance, nutrition education and a garden. Together, these services address different points at which a household can lose reliable access to nutritious food.
For donors interested in rural hunger, the organization offers a way to support a shared regional system with multiple local points of access. Children's meals, senior assistance and mobile distribution make that network useful at different stages of life. Executive Director Zack Wilson and Director of Development Tina Brohlin lead the effort, connecting charitable support with the programs and partnerships that carry food across the Panhandle.
