A mother in the direct line

Lula A. Sherrod Perry was the mother of James Albert “Jim” Perry. Jim’s 1943 Texas death certificate names his mother as Lula Sherod/Sherrod; the parent information was supplied by an informant.

The marriage in Burleson County

An indexed Burleson County marriage places Lula Sherrod and J. Daniel Perry together on November 28, 1888. The original county marriage entry remains a research target.

The published index points to Marriage Record Volume VII, page 48. Retrieving the complete original entry will allow the license, ceremony and return dates to be distinguished.

The questions still open

The family chronology places Lula’s life in 1871–1926; those endpoints remain subject to verification against her own records. Project research identifies Carr Bowers Sherrod and Sarah Bernice “Sallie” Woodruff Lawless Sherrod as her likely parents, but an original record naming Lula’s parents is still needed.

Julia Mae Riddle Perry’s 1979 family history recalls meeting Jim in 1912 at the Peacock home of “Dan and Lula Perry.” That recollection must be reconciled with the repeated, unproved 1899 death date for Dan. It does not by itself resolve the household’s identity or Dan’s death date.
