Black-and-white solo childhood portrait of Lorene Perry
Interpretive image

Lorene Perry as a child. Solo portrait isolated from the photograph of Lorene, Alvin and Raymond.

01

Lorene, Alvin and Raymond

A surviving studio portrait names three children from left to right: Lorene, Alvin and Raymond. They are Clayton’s great-grandfather Raymond Perry and two of Raymond’s siblings.

Lorene stands at the left. The preserved caption makes that placement possible; it is part of the photograph’s evidence, as necessary as the faces themselves.

A life beyond the childhood portrait

Lorene Faye Perry was the daughter of James Albert “Jim” Perry and Julia Mae Riddle Perry, and Raymond’s sister. Julia’s family history places Lorene’s birth in Hamlin and records her marriage to Charles Warren Pitcock.

They had two sons, Jimmy Charles and Billy Mack. Raymond’s 1974 obituary identifies Lorene as a resident of Lubbock.
